Gallery - St. Johns vs Scottsdale, '09 Playoff Pics E-mail
The St. Johns Redskins escaped with a 28-22 victory over the Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles last Friday to advance to the 2009 2A State Semifinals.  The Skins were led by a great game from Cade Ashton, who was named the Sports Zone Magazine's Player of the Game.  Ashton found the end zone twice, on a first quarter 7 yard TD reception, then on a second quarter 8 yard dash.  The Redskins' senior also had a great game defensively at linebacker.

Quarterback Steven Lindsey also provided some highlights, including an 80 yard touchdown run that came early in the second quarter.  The Redskins built a 28-14 lead at halftime but failed to score in the second half and got a great fourth down conversion at midfield on a halfback pass from Ashton to Lindsey that kept a key, time-consuming drive alive.

Next for St. Johns is the "Morgan Bowl", pitting St. Johns Head Coach Mike Morgan versus his little brother, Bill Morgan and the Valley Christian Trojans.  The two teams also met in the 2008 semi's, with St. Johns earning a 44-27 victory.  They also met in the 2007 semi's and St. Johns won that contest, too, by a final of 28-8.  This marks the third consecutive time the Redskins and Trojans meet in the semifinals, a family tradition.
