The St. Johns Redskins have not lost at home in three years, and the last team to beat them at Redskin stadium was the Thatcher Eagles.  The Redskins played Thatcher last Friday in the opening round of the 2009 2A State Playoffs, and came up with one of their biggest victories in the history of this rivalry.  Garrett Anderson earned Sports Zone Magazine Player of the Game honors by scoring six touchdowns and the Redskins won the game 54-6.  Next for St. Johns, a home game in round two of the playoffs against the No. 6 seeded Scottsdale Christian Eagles.  St. Johns is seeded No. 3 overall.  A win over Scottsdale Christian is likely to match up the Redskins with Valley Christian, the team coached by St. Johns Head Coach Mike Morgan's brother Bill.  Photos by Sean Kienle

The Blue Ridge Yellow Jacket boys basketball team used a big second quarter to build an 11 point halftime lead, outscoring the Elks 20-8 in that quarter, and went on to a 71-55 home victory over an Elks team that was predicted by some to win the East this season.

Blue Ridge was led in the game by the Sports Zone Magazine's Player of  the Game, Kenny Kellywood.  The senior post player had 18 points in the first half, spearheading the Jackets' big second quarter.  He finished with 20 points to be high-point man in the game.  Nick Johnson added 12 points while Farron Kinney and Cody Carlson both finished with 11.

Round Valley's Troyal Turquoise led his team with 14 points, half of that total coming from the free throw line.  Duskin Donaldson and Rulon Udall both had 12 points.

The win gave Blue Ridge a 6-1 season record.  They went to 1-0 in the East.  The loss for Round Valley comes on the heels of a big upset over North powerhouse Chinle, 58-52 in the finals of the Round Valley Shootout.  The was just the second loss in the first 13 games for Chinle.
