The Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets captured the 2009 1A-3A state soccer championship in Dick Breckenridge's final game head coach of the team. The Jackets state tournament run included an 8-0 blowout of Verde Valley in round one followed by a thrilling 3-2 overtime win versus St. Gregory in the quarterfinals. In the semi's, Blue Ridge eliminated Desert Christian 2-0. Finally, the Jackets coasted to a 4-0 shutout of Phoenix Country Day School in the championship to mark the sixth championship for Blue Ridge under Coach Breckenridge. Photos by Joe Renko

The biggest rivalry in small school girls soccer just might be Blue Ridge versus St. Johns. So it was fitting they would meet in the 2009 state semifinals to decide who would advance to take on Show Low for the state championship trophy. In the end, the Lady Yellow Jackets turned St. Johns away with a 2-1 victory, then went on to beat Show Low by the same score, 2-1. Photos by Joe Renko
